Farkas and Vilkas are great, but if you’re not into their personalities, you’re missing out on what bringing a companion around Skyrim with you is all about in the first place. But these NPCs are in the game by defult specifically when doing the Dawngaurd and vampire related stuff. No matter which companion you choose though, it’s most important to go for a follower who you actually want to spend time with. Some of the NPCs in my game have the dark face bug and when I try to search the web for a fix it seems to only tell me what to do for custom followers and custom NPCs like you would make in CK. They follow a daily routine which varies depending on their status. To become a follower they must be convinced or hired. They work in inns, taverns, and jarls' houses and castles.

Teldryn actually has some of the most unique armour in the game and fights with a relentlessly aggressive battlemage build, capable of demonizing even the most formidable of foes. So taking him on board for a mere 500 gold is a bit of a steal. Immersive Wenches is a follower mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition that adds female NPCs to Skyrim. Teldryn Sero is a mercenary you can encounter in Raven Rock’s tavern, The Retching Netch. The Dragonborn DLC has some new companions too.
